The space industry in the UK is a small but growing sector - highly specialist and demanding of good technical skills, with opportunities for FE to engage.

This event held at the Marshall AeroAcademy offers a chance to see aviation technologies up close. The day will include an update on training in the sector and the collaborative approach by key employers, such as FlyBe and Virgin Atlantic, in developing joint working on the skills sets that are fundamental and necessary to the industry.

The technologies will also be covered: experts will be talking on their specialist areas of aviation engineering at Marshall, including engineering design, manufacture and fitting, use of advanced and composite materials, inspection and testing

The session is ideal for:

  • Curriculum leaders in aeropace/aviation, mechanical engineering, electrical & electronics, materials/composites
  • Lecturers and assessors in engineering, including mechanical/ manufacturing /control & instrumentation
  • It will also be of interest to business development directors looking to understand the aerospace sectors

Tour of the site

The tour will include a brief history of Marshall ADG, a talk about the WING project, a walk through the working hangers of Marshall seeing the C-130’s (and any other aircraft available) of various nations in various states of maintenance and a talk on the long term testing of the complete wing and fuselage in 21 hanger – our dedicated test department.
