Uxbridge College the latest to gain STEM Assured status

Uxbridge College has successfully secured STEM Assured, the industry-led quality mark for STEM training awarded by the New Engineering Foundation (NEF)

The standard recognises excellence in STEM (Science, Engineering, Technology and Maths) provision within the Further Education sector, with a particular focus on industry relevance and embedding STEM skills across a range of learning areas. Read more about STEM Assured here

An independent validation panel assessed the college against NEF’s rigorous criteria. Following the panel’s decision to approve Uxbridge College’s application, the NEF’s Dr Sarah Peers said:
“Uxbridge College have clearly been demonstrating a commitment to STEM over the long term. There has been significant investment in creating industry-standard facilities, and they recruit many industry practitioners into teaching roles. Resources are of a high standard, and a good example of their promotion of STEM is the ongoing contact with the alumni of their IT games courses, who are utilised to inspire future learners.”

Ray Ferris, the college’s Director of Technology, said:
“We as a College are very serious about our STEM provision and proud of our track record in it. Our main aim [in the STEM Assured process] was to pull together our STEM work and to develop a strategic approach to further developing our curriculum. The bid process was hard work but extremely helpful... I am convinced that our decision to become a STEM Assured college will further improve our STEM provision in the next few years and beyond”

STEM Assured is a UK-wide quality standard recognised by the UK Commission for Employment & Skills (UKCES) and The National Apprenticeship Service (NAS). The award reflects the College’s determination to be at the forefront of STEM provision and meet the needs of local and regional employers. Find out more about Uxbridge College here
