Meet the experts at BU’s new cyber security unit to understand some of the current and future security and assurance issues facing the UK.

The Masterclass

Cybercrime is a growing problem for organisations worldwide and is costing the UK around £27 billion.  All businesses, educational providers, hospitals, enterprises, face serious threats from hackers, data protection breaches and compliance issues. Without comprehensive security, these can cost businesses and industry significant amounts of money as well as potentially leading to dangerous situations.

Bournemouth University has strong links to companies and the Royal School of Signals, as it offers degrees and training directly related to data, information and military systems security.

This Masterclass will bring together researchers and lecturers at the university, industry and military experts to talk on cyber insecurity, information assurance, ethical hacking and digital forensics.  There will be valuable and unique insights from industrial perspectives on best practices in companies, and also on pathways for learners, including a session on what students need on their CVs and professional requirements. Exciting practical  demonstrations and activities, such as on cyber war: offence and defence is planned to round off the day.

Bournemouth University’s  School of Design, Engineering & Computing (DEC) is carrying out state of the art research that is going to be essential for securing international competitiveness for UK firms in the online services industry.

The university offers degrees in information assurance, digital forensics and security providing a sound technical education for learners to enter a career in mainstream computing, with a particular emphasis on the fast-growing area of computer security and computer crime.

The team offers Enterprise Assurance and Security Consultancy providing expert awareness advice, training and security expertise and services to companies around the UK.
