Preparing for an unpredictable future

NEF is launching its new think tank report Inventing the Future: transforming STEM economies on Wednesday 2 July at the Royal Society of Chemistry, Piccadilly, London at 5.30pm.

The event, which includes a panel discussion, is being attended by senior figures from industry, Government and academia. It will be chaired by Baroness Hussein-Ece and introduced by Gavin Patterson, CEO of BT Group.

Inventing the Future: Transforming STEM economies explores the effect of disruptive technology on the workplace and the changing skills requirements of STEM-based companies (organisations heavily reliant on science, technology, engineering and mathematics skills).

The report calls for a radical overhaul of STEM vocational education following a three-year review of FE colleges, in which it found that most STEM-based courses were not aligned to the needs of industry.

It also recommends the development of a new type of multidisciplinary technologist, able to think entrepreneurially and move easily between industrial sectors.

Inventing the Future is sponsored by engineering recruitment specialist Matchtech.

Copies of the report can be loaded from the NEF website from 2 July at:
